When Manny Pacquiao fights…

Manny Pacquiao will fight David Diaz today in an ambitious feat of the aforementioned become the first Asian to win world titles in four divisions. More to what he has to offer in the name of “Bravo Indio” race, Lorden Leopoldo sees another thing why this fighter from General Santos City should be a national hero.

Published yesterday at SUNSTAR CEBU WEEKEND page 6, this is what Lorden Leopoldo has to say:

A lot of good things happen to the Philippines when Manny Pacquiao has a fight. His upcoming duel against David Diaz this Sunday is no exception. So, let’s count the blessings:

7. Brisk Business for cinema and restaurant owners. This is the time of the year that owners of cinemas are grinning from ear to ear. They are earning a load of money in this boxing mega event. Even the restaurants– from your ultra expensive sosyal restaurant down to your friendly neighborhood karinderya, as long as they have a good sized television and paid the right sum for the PPV — the treasury chest is going to be filled, for sure. Every Pinoy is going to watch this fight wether the fee is Php 1,000.00 or Php 50; it doesn’t matter.

6. Hospital Patients get well, sooner than expected. This is well-documented. patients try hard to get well on Saturday so that they can go home and watch the fight by Sunday. One heck of a way to get well… but very effective.

5. Absolutely no traffic. Yes sir, no traffic on this day. And I dare say, ” no traffic enforcers as well.” During the PACQUIAO VS MORALES III live feed showing here in Cebu, I watched the fight in a restaurant ( the Php 50 kind) with my friend. During the fight, a two vehicle accident happened. Normally, here in the Philippies, accidents like that would create a small crowd. but not during a Pacquiao fight. Nobody even noticed that there was an accident. Even the cops and traffic enforcers who were watching with us in the restaurant didn’t bother to investigate. And funniest of all, the drivers didn’t wait for any cop to arrive. They were probably in a hurry to watch the fight. They just gave it a shrug and went their separate ways. Yep, TRUE STORY.

4. Politics take a back seat. This is my favorite part. Ahmm, yes it is. The world of politics can be real headache for ordinary Filipinos. We are just so sick and tired o hearing all those Senate investigations, political scandals, corrupton, etc. Ah we have heard enough of it. But during this specific moment, every politician is watching the fight and keeping their mouoth shut. GOOD !

Now, if only someone will prevent them from stepping into the ring — post fight.

3. Ceasefire between the military and the rebels

No skirmish. No ambush. Back to barracks. CEASEFIRE! This is one of the very few things that the soldiers and the rebels can agree on . THEY LOVE TO SEE PACQUIAO FIGHT.

2. Crime free. It’s been long established that the entire Philippine archipelago is CRIME FREE when Manny Pacquiao fights. All the misfits of society: robbers, theives, snatchers, killers, holduppers, Akyat Bahay gang members — yest, all of them will be taking a break.

1. The Filipinos are united. This is the BEST reason of them all . We become ONE NATION.

GO MANNY, THE PHILIPPINES IS BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY.
