IABC Communication Camp for Senior School Publication Editors Offered

The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, the leading PR and communication industry group with a global network of 14,000 practitioners, is inviting senior editors of  student publications to a three-day journalism training seminar to be held on July 7-9 this year.

The training seminar, called ComCamp, is being offered at no cost to 30-50 senior editors from the same number of colleges and universities in Metro Manila and other major cities. It will be conducted at the SBC Hotel at Estrada St. near St. Benilde and de la Salle - Taft in Malate, Manila. IABC officials and staff will be staying with the students for the duration of the three-day and two-night seminar and the field trip to print and broadcast offices. For students below 18 years of age,  a written permission and waiver from their parents or guardians is required to be submitted.

While journalistic skills and values will be the emphasis of the seminar, there will be modules on corporate communication, PR and advertising.

Our corporate sponsors and professional media partners will act as “ninong-ninang” to the college editors, and the expectation is for all parties to correspond for one year, through email or any other inexpensive means, so that the skills training and values formation of the college editors can go on after this seminar and have longer-lasting results.

This invitation is for limited slots only, depending on the number of sponsors and media partners the organizers can generate.

For interested parties contact IABC Philippines President Veronica T. Merk  at Our contact numbers are 750-5667, 751-3205 and 810-1361 local 123. Or email us through iabc_philippines@yahoo.com.

  3. I am the Associate Editor of the Artificer, the Official Student Publication of the Sorsogon State COllege.
I am making known my interest in joining the affair but I don’t know if you will be accomodating student-writers from the provinces. Can we participate in this training?

  4. Whether you are accepted at the IABC Communication Camp or not, may I suggest reading the two books below by a former college newspaper editor in chief and IABC Gold Quill Award winner?

    New Book on Good English
    Usage Goes Off the Press

A new book on English usage by National Book Award-winning author Jose Carillo, “The 10 Most Annoying English Grammar Errors,” went off the press recently along with the second updated edition of his award-winning and bestselling first book, “English Plain and Simple: No-Nonsense Ways to Learn Today’s Global Language.”

Carillo’s new 122-page book consists of incisive, no-holds-barred critiques of the most vexing grammar and usage errors that crop up in today’s newspapers and magazines as well as in the broadcast media and on the web. The 498-page “English Plain and Simple,” which won the National Book Award in linguistics from the Manila Critics’ Circle in 2005, seeks to help nonnative English speakers improve their written English without having to go back to the classroom.

Both books may be browsed at http://www.manilatimes.net/josecarillobooks and are available in the Philippines from selected outlets of National Book Store, Powerbooks, Bestsellers, Goodwill Bookstore, Fully Booked, and Expressions. Group or bulk orders of the books may be purchased at quantity discounts at books@manilatimes.net.
