Young Public Servants (YPS) is a group of young, dynamic individuals who believe that good citizenship doesn’t happen overnight, but is a gradual process that requires each young Filipino to step up and take the lead. Good governance and democratic citizenship are critical elements in nurturing a generation of focused and dedicated leaders.

On March 8, 2008, YPS will launch the first in a series of activities that will bring together youth leaders from various sectors to tackle governance, citizenship, and socio-development reform issues, as seen from young voter’s minds. Entitled “Youth Vote 2010!,” the event will be a convergence of thinkers, trendsetters and decision makers from the academe, including representatives from student councils and student organizations; the private sector, such as young professionals and entrepreneurs; and the public sector or the government.

The congress aims to prove that gathering that elusive youth vote—a critical factor in bringing the nation beyond 2010—is possible. During the congress, YPS and its partner institutions and networks will launch the program “The Youth Can Elect the Next President’”.

Other goals that YPS hopes to achieve through the Congress are: to establish baseline conversations with recognized and serious “presidentiables,” put up a tracking process on these agreements leading to 2010 and beyond, link information on activities of various youth organizations, and facilitate broader youth efforts in creating the Youth Vote for 2010–of which will be presented online in a youth election portal.

The day-long Congress will begin with morning breakout sessions to surface young leaders’ benchmarks for key youth concerns related to the MDG’s, Governance and Corruption issues and will culminate in the afternoon with an honest and open dialogue and forum with eminent “presidentiables”.

Come and engage the “presidentiables” in insightful conversations and challenging discussions, as well as lively exchanges of views and opinions on various issues and flagship programs for youth.
